Friday Fictioneers: Just Jump!

friday-fictioneersTalk about late for the party! It’s been another crazy week of things that keep me from writing. As you can see from Rochelle’s photo, I had the wonderful fortune to meet up with Amy Reese, a fellow Ficitoneer, when I was at BlogHer14 last week.  Our meeting was delightful in every way!

I appreciate everyone who takes the time to read my work, and welcome any feedback that is thoughtful or constructive. I am so grateful to Rochelle Wisoff-Fields for her wonderful dedication to Friday Fictioneers!  If you would like to write a 100-word story, visit Addicted to Purple for more details. Or, stop by to read all the wonderful stories that come with each photo prompt!

 Just Jump! (98 words)

“You can do this! Just take a deep breath and jump!”

Jamie held on tightly to the door and shook her head no.

“You’ve practiced; you’ve planned; now you just have to jump!”

Mike, her jump buddy, tried to be reassuring, but over the sound of the plane engine, his yelling only rattled Jamie more.

This is not about heights, she thought. I love Brian and I’m ready to marry him tomorrow. This is not about heights! She looked down at the field far below and breathed deeply.
“I’m ready!” Thumbs up, she leapt into her new life.

Well, hello Dawn! Thanks for the mention. It was a pleasure to meet you and hope we can do it again someday! A relationship/marriage is a big jump and can feel as scary as jumping off a plane! It takes faith. Great story!

Dear Dawn, I wasn’t the last one to post this week after all. Great story and jumping out of a perfectly good airplane is not my cup of tea for sure. Now, if the engine was on fire and it was the last think to do to protect myself – ok – Oh, I think maybe you were talking about someone getting married? It was a good story. Nan 🙂 BTW I like the picture of you and Amy – I bet you had fun!

  3. Glad she had a jump buddy. Those are important. Hopefully she will have one throughout her marriage.

  4. Jump9ng from a plane should be a prerequisite to getting married. The latter is so much more dangerous.

  5. Love the double entendre and how it tied in beautifully with the photo. Well done.

  6. Dear Dawn,

For me it would be about heights. My fantasy is to learn to scuba dive. I’ve come close. I’ve snorkeled in St. Thomas, St. John and Eilat.

I could hear the engines i your story and felt my stomach drop. Good one.

    shalom,

    • Thanks Rochelle. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I too would love to dive! It’s been on my list for most of my life (I truly wanted to be Jacques Cousteau when I was a young girl– BE him!), but my ears bother me, and I’ve been told I most likely couldn’t do the depths. I do love to snorkel though, and have been fortunate enough to have done it in some very special places!

  8. Dawn, Good story and well written as usual. Jumping from a plane was never on my bucket list. Of course, I never had a bucket list. I understand this was also about marriage, and I’m really, really glad that jumping from a plane is not a necessary preparation. Well done. 🙂 —Susan

Hi Dawn, well written. A jump or a leap of faith! Whatever it is I’m sure Jamie will land on her feet.

Hey Dawn, that could have been me waiting for her to jump. I wonder if you have ever skydived because your description is right on! Of course, so is your imagination, so you could easily have gotten into Jamie’s head. (Note to Jamie – Go for it! You won’t regret it.) – Mike

I could never do the skydive thing. I am no good with heights although better than I used to be, so she gets my vote for the sheer guts of jumping out when is not too happy about it.
Great to see you and Amy, hear you had fun at BlogHer.
