This May or May Not Be Fiction (97 words)

“ This sunrise is amazing! Look at all those colors!”

Todd swept his arms across the skyline and whooped.

“Whoa, seriously… there’s like pink, and purple… green… Man this is unreal!”

Beside him, Kelly studied the fine lines in a fall leaf.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything this beautiful… the mountains, the trees, and that sky– I feel so alive!”

Kelly remained quiet, engrossed in the moment and her boyfriend’s enthusiasm.

Dana watched from a few feet away and laughed.

“Man is right; Todd you’re a riot!” she chimed. “Clearly the ‘shrooms have kicked in.”

As long as they don’t end up being poisonous and deadly. 😉

You provided a good example of a dialogue-driven story, something I have come to appreciate in fiction. It takes us readers directly into the scene and holds us there until you release us. I commend you for shaking free of your muddy boots and pressing forward even when the going is not easy.

I got a good chuckle from this. Maybe it was me imagining you, the hipster, knowing about psychedelic mushrooms. I will admit there was a time in my pre-parenting years when I learned a thing or two about psilocybin mushrooms. – Mike

Good one, Dawn. I got a chuckle out of it too. I had a mushroom or two forty years ago. As I recall, we boiled them a while and mixed the broth with grape kool-aid to help the taste.

  6. Dawn, better late than never. I’ve been this late before. So…are you saying this is a Friday nonFictioneers piece? 😉 That would be quite the riot.

    • Well, David… I said, this MAY (or may not) be fiction. A writer may or may not have tried shrooms, on a mountain top… say in New Hampshire, circa 1983, and it may have been pretty funny. But yes, better late than never– with fiction, or non-fiction. 😉 Thanks for stopping by.

  9. Scary – I always go for the ‘shrooms you use in cooking. Wouldn’t do that magic thing.. I hope it was a single experience

    • Again, it may be fiction… if I did it, I might of done it more than once, and not only lived to tell, but enjoyed it in the moment. Today, I’ll take a truffle, lion’s main, shitake, etc… ANY day! Big fan. 🙂

  10. Dear Dawn,

This may or may not be a comment. 😉 Better late than never. A lot of fun in this piece. A couple of years ago I wrote one of those “may or may not be fiction” pieces. I think you’ll enjoy it. https://rochellewisofffields.wordpress.com/2013/03/27/29-march-2013/

Good to see you here, no matter when.

  12. I’ve had magic mushrooms offered to me to buy, but never tried them. But the idea for a story certainly crossed my mind. Are we dating ourselves here or are people still using them?

Confession may (or may not) be good for the blog. Fun stuff, Dawn! And colorful. Definitely worth the wait. Write these things whenever you can–your audience will be waiting to slurp it up.

First ‘date’ with my now husband, 35 years ago, may or may not have involved magic mushrooms. Sorry can’t remember it all, but I do remember laying in an apple orchard listening to the apples drop!
