This doesn’t happen often, but my new post is an original Huffington Post piece. I spent weeks writing it, and hope you’ll stop by HuffPo and show some love. For the record, my nest is never empty: my older son is home for a while, and my two nephews are living with us. But seeing my youngest off was a big step and it’s taken weeks to write this. Stop by Huffington (here) and let me know what you think.

Great article, Dawn. You know I can relate since my oldest started college in August. He’s less than an hour away, and he comes home often on weekends, so that’s been a buffer to the full experience you’re having. But it’s still strange to be out of the loop in his life. But as you say, it’s how it should be, and the best we can do is hope we’ve raised them to be independent and self-sufficient, and taught them to make good choices. That being said, I bet my son has eaten little in the way of vegetables…

Vegetables are often the least of it, Carrie, but with your son so nearby, at least you can see that he’s doing well. That first one is just a major speed bump, no doubt about it! Sending you a big mama hug. xox

I too dropped my youngest off in August. She’s been very good to her mom..texting and calling. It’s been and continues to be an adjustment. I, like you, am blessed and proud. My home has whispering echoes that makes my heart ache so very heavily

I know exactly what you mean, Audra. It’s been such an emotional summer, seeing my boy off, my grandson born and our household shift and change again. “Whispering echoes that makes my heart ache so very heavily,” oh my; you say it perfectly friend. xox
